I'm not really big into doing covers, but I awoke one morning singing this song.
And it hit me! If we look at the words from a Christian perspective, it's God
the Father, talking to His children! Amazing! I'm sure that when Chrissy Hynde
of "The Pretenders" (Oh, I'm really dating myself) wrote this song, she never
thought it would make its way onto a contemporary Christian album some 20 years
later! Well, it just goes to show you...God works in mysterious ways.
Ooh...
Oh, why you look so sad?
Tears are in your eyes
Come on and come to me now
Hey, what you got to hide?
Let me see you through
'Cause I've seen the dark side, too
When the night falls on you
You don't know what to do
Nothing you confess
Could make me love you less
I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you
So, if you're mad, get mad
Don't hold it all inside
Come on and talk to me now
Hey, what you got to hide?
I get angry, too
Well, I am a lot like you
When you're standing at the crossroads
And don't know which path to choose
Let me come along
'Cause even if you're wrong
I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you
Take me in into your darkest hour
And I'll never dessert you
I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you
Won't let nobody hurt you
I'll stand by you
Ooh...
Oh, why you look so sad?
Tears are in your eyes
Hey, what you got to hide?
Let me see you through
I'll stand by you
And I won't ever hurt you
I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you
And I'll never dessert you
I'll stand by you
